Mae Hong Sorn, Thailand's northern border city, hiding itself in between the towering mountains with densely forested slopes, stretching to the Burmese border. Mae Hong Sorn is known for its charm of scenery and culture. The people of Mae Hong Sorn consists of the Shans who live in the city and the hill tribe people who live in remote villages on mountain tops where elements of lifestyle have changed little in hundreds of years. The city is covered with the mist all year long. Mae Hong Sorn gains its nickname of "the City of Three Mists" from the fact that it has dewy mist in the winter, forest fire mist in the summer and rainy mist in the rainy season.

ITINERARY:
BANGKOK – CHIANG MAI – MAE HONG SORN

Pick up from Bangkok and transfer to Bangkok Airport for boarding flight to Chiang Mai. Arrive Chiang Mai. Meet & greet by local uide.
Start your trip to Mae Hong Sorn. Drive through spectacular jungle clad mountains. Stop at Mae Rim Orchid farm before continuing to Mae Hong Sorn. Visit to the Fish Cave where large fresh water fish left undisturbed in the mountain side pool. Villagers believed that the fish are protected by the mountain spirit. Catching them will bring bad luck.
Arrive to Mae Hong Sorn, a small town where Shan people, originally from Myanmar lived. You will see hill tribe selling their products in the market.

Breakfast at hotel. Experience an unforgettable jungle journey through the elephant back ride. Then drive further into the countryside in pick-up vans on the narrow roads. The drive will bring you to the most colorful hill tribe village – home to the Long Neck Karens. Their women wearing brass coils round their necks and legs, which make their neck looked longer. The coils are considered to be beautiful and sign of wealth. Lunch at a local restaurant. After lunch, cruise along Pai River in a motor boat for return to Mae Hong Sorn town.

MAE HONG SORN – CHIANG MAI – BANGKOK
Monday, 30 June 2008 (Breakfast)
Breakfast at hotel. Visit the morning market to practice and witness the traditional Buddhist offering to monks. Afterwards, visit the Burmese temples on the lakeside – Wat Jong Kam, Wat Jong Klang and Wat Doi Kongmoo located on the top of this town.
Depart Mae Hong Sorn to Chiang Mai by air, connecting flight to Bangkok. After arrival, transfer to hotel to pick up your baggage and pack for return home. Departure transfer from hotel for a flight home. |
